Useful Information

This page summarises some key pieces of information for parents/carers of pupils at Newtown Nursery School.

General Information

Communication

We utilise Our Schools App for whole school updates and then ParentZone personalised updates on your child's progress and invoices.

Our Schools App
This can be accessed by downloading this on the app store and searching Newtown Nursery School.

ParentZone
The school office set new starters up on this and then send out a welcome email.

Key Person

Your child will be allocated a Key Person when they start who will update you on your child's day upon collection and be your first point of call for any queries regarding your child's learning or development.

Uniform

We encourage all pupils to wear our school uniform when they attend our nursery school. This is available to purchase directly from Jean Junction - they have a website for online orders with delivery as well as a shop called 'The Uniform Shop' near Asda, Colne.

School Dinners

As a maintained nursery school, we are very lucky to have our own school cook and our pupils are able to enjoy a warm lunch each day. Please follow the link below to view the menu.

Belongings

Your child will be allocated a coat peg and a green drawstring bag when they start nursery. This is for their personal belongings such as spare clothes, coat, nappies and wipes. Your child's peg and bag will have their name on to help them recognise themselves and develop a sense of belonging. Please ensure your child's name is clearly marked in all of their clothing.

Comforters

If your child has a comforter at home they may bring these with them to nursery if needed to help with transition. However, we ask that toys and personal items should be left at home to avoid possessions getting lost or broken. A dummy may be kept in nursery for very young children and provided if necessary to calm and settle. As your child grows, they will find other ways to soothe themselves.

Health and Wellbeing

Toothbrushing

At Newtown Nursery School, we support the recommended daily tooth brushing routine by encouraging children to brush their teeth twice a day — once in the morning and once before bed — using fluoride toothpaste. To reinforce this at nursery, we incorporate toothbrushing into our daily routine through supervised sessions, fun educational activities, and stories that promote good oral hygiene habits. By working together with parents and carers, we’re helping children develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

Illness

If your child is unwell before nursery, please ring before their session to let us know. We follow Public Health England and NHS guidance on all illness as below:

Immunisations

We follow Public Health England's advice on checking immunisation status on admission and this will be done by checking your child's Red Book.

Allergies and Medical Conditions

It is very important that you inform us of any allergies or medical conditions using the application form and communicate about any changes to this throughout your child's time at nursery.

Medication

We are unable to administer non-prescription or short-term medicines, including antibiotics. A Health Care Plan/Medication Plan will be agreed for children who need long term medication.

Safety and Security

Parking

Please ensure you are parking safely, when coming to nursery to drop off or collect your child, to keep children safe. Parking spaces are limited, please be considerate to local residents by avoiding parking in front of garages/gateways or on the small car park at the bottom of Newtown Street as this is for residents only. The road leading to nursery must be kept clear at all times for use by emergency vehicles.

The Health Centre Short Stay Car Park is available and open for use by parents/carers - a parking disc is required.

Mobile Phones

Parents and visitors are not allowed to use mobile phones whilst in the building, in line with our Child Protection Policy and Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.

Door Security and Collections

Please help us to keep your children safe by not letting any parents/visitors through the front door. Additionally, each child must have a password in place for collection and we ask that you contact the school office if the person collecting is going to be different to the usual arrangement.

Unavoidable School Closure

There may be occasions where we are unable to open or must close early for the safety and protection of our staff and pupils. In the event of a closure, we will update the following places:
